Numerical Modeling of Seismic Wave Propagation at the Micro-Scale in Digitized Sandstone
In this paper, we first examine the relationship between the relative particle motions of fluids and solids and the seismic signal received when compressional waves propagate through saturated porous materials. We use a rotated-staggered-grid finite difference modeling scheme to simulate elastic wave phenomena in a digitized 2D structural model obtained from micrographs of a loose beach sand. W...
متن کاملWave Equations in Transversely Isotropic Media in Terms of Potential Functions (RESEARCH NOTE)
A complete series of potential functions for solving the wave equations in an almost transversely isotropic media is presented. The potential functions are reduced to only one potential function particularly for axisymmetric wave propagation problems. The potential functions presented in this paper can be reduced to Lekhnitskii-Hu-Nowacki solution for elastostatics problems.
متن کاملSeismic Wave Attenuation in Fluid-saturated Porous Media
Contrary to the traditional view, seismic attenuation in Biot's theory of uid-saturated porous media is due to viscous damping of local (not global) pore-uid motion. Since substantial inhomogeneities in uid permeability of porous geological materials are to be expected, the regions of highest local permeability contribute most to the wave energy dissipation while those of lowest permeability do...
متن کاملSeismic Wave Propagation in Media with Complex Geometries, Simulation of
Glossary Numerical methods Processes in nature are often described by partial differential equations. Finding solutions to those equations is at the heart of many studies aiming at the explanation of observed data. Simulations of realistic physical processes requires generally the use of numerical methods – a special branch of applied mathematics – that approximate the partial differential equa...
متن کاملTight Gas Sandstone Reservoirs , Part 1 : Overview and Lithofacies 14
Although shale gas plays have been in the spotlight recently, natural gas in tight sandstones is actually also an important hydrocarbon resource. In many cases, tight gas sandstone resources can be developed more easily than shale gas reservoirs as the rocks generally have higher quartz content, and are more brittle and easier to complete for production. This chapter first gives an overview of ...
